Proof types

Proof is what workers send back to show they did the task. You choose the proof in step 1 of the campaign form, under Proof Requirements.

Turning proof on

Tick Workers are required to submit task completion proof(s). Then choose one or more of the three proof types below and write a description for each. The description is what the worker reads, so say exactly what you need.

If proof is on, at least one type must be selected and each one needs a description.

The three proof types

Proof typeWhat you setHow workers submit it
Text proofOne description of the text you needThey type or paste their answer into a text box
Image proofOne description per image, up to 10, using Add MoreThey upload one image for each description you wrote
Video proofOne description of the recording you needThey record their screen in the browser or upload a video file

Text proof

Use it for anything a worker can type: a URL, a code shown at the end of a task, a username, or a short answer. When you review, the submission shows how many characters were typed and how many were pasted, which helps you spot copied answers.

Image proof

Each image proof is a separate upload slot with its own description, for example Image proof 1: the confirmation page, Image proof 2: your profile page. Workers upload one image per slot, and the task can't be submitted until every slot is filled. Images can be up to 10 MB each in common formats such as JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC.

Photo Collection campaigns turn image proof on automatically, because the photos are the result you are paying for.

Video proof

Workers can choose Record screen to record their screen directly in the browser, or Upload file to send a video they recorded. Files can be up to 1 GB (MP4, WebM, MOV or OGG). If a browser doesn't support screen recording, the worker uses the upload option instead.

Video Recording and Voice Recording campaigns turn video proof on automatically. For Voice Recording, workers can upload audio files in this slot.

Proof for specific actions

On Media Streaming Platforms and Reddit campaigns, you can give actions like liking, commenting or upvoting to only a share of workers. In that case each text or image proof has a Needed from setting. Choose Every worker, or limit the proof to the workers who were asked to do a certain action, so nobody is asked for a screenshot of something they weren't told to do.

Other ways work comes back

  • Image Tagging campaigns don't use the proof section: workers draw boxes on your images and pick one of your labels.
  • Custom Template campaigns collect the answers workers enter in your form. You can still add proof on top.
  • Local Field Tasks and Mystery Shopping capture the worker's GPS position when they submit and check it against your location and radius.

What proof costs

Proof adds $0.01 per proof item for each position. Text proof counts as one item, video proof as one item, and every image proof you list counts as its own item. For example, text proof plus 2 image proofs is 3 items, so a campaign with 100 positions pays 3 × $0.01 × 100 = $3.00. The Proof Submission Fee line in the Estimated cost panel shows the exact amount.

Tip: Only ask for proof you will actually check. One clear screenshot is often better than three vague ones.

Common questions

Can I make proof optional for workers?

No. Every proof field you add must be filled before a worker can submit. If you don't need proof, leave the proof requirement unticked.

Can I see the work while it is being done?

Yes. Workers doing your task right now appear under Working now on the campaign page. Choose View Live to see their progress, including which proof they have added so far.

Can I add proof after the campaign is live?

No. Proof requirements are set when you create the campaign. Use Run again or create a new campaign to change them.
